Today I added 3 dried cherries and 3 chocolate chips to each cookie and had an "ah-ha" moment. I LOVE chocolate cherry clusters but at 180 calories a serving I don't love the calories. While I was waiting for my breakfast to cook I counted how many dried cherries were in the 1/3 cup serving shown on the bag so I could calculate the calorie per piece. It turns out there are only 2.1 calories in a single dried cherries and a chocolate chip has only 2.3 so the next time I have a hankering for a chocolate cherry cluster I will happily grab one of my homemade clusters consisting of 6 dried cherries and 12 chocolate chips melted gently together in a warm oven then cooled.
With only 40 chocolate chewy cherry calories I could easily have this treat with my tea every evening I want a little something sweet.
I can't wait until dessert!
I got a laugh today. My family were eating my homemade 40 calorie
chocolate cherry clusters that I had placed in the empty Costco container.
The were all talking about how this batch was so much better than they remebered them to be since it had been several weeks since they had eaten one. I laughed as I told them that I justsimply reused the container because it was handy and it gave me some degree of satisfaction to twist it open to grab a treat. I love the fact that eating two are less than half the calories but they don't short change me on the flavor or satisfaction.
